Your postpartum journey begins as soon as your baby is born and you enter into the fourth trimester. This is a beautiful and raw period that is both simple and challenging and requires us to be creative, compassionate and look at everything with an open heart and open mind.
Yet, the amount of education and focus around this transformative time is lacking and it leaves families underprepared and under-supported going into the fourth trimester and beyond.
My intentions are to break down the complicated systems that new parents are inundated with and provide them with the guidance and support needed to feel confident and empowered when they bring their new baby home.
“Breastfeeding is physiological and intuitive, your baby is born knowing what to do, our job is to support them in accessing their built in reflexes and instincts and get out of their way.” (J. Bell)
Breastfeeding and bodyfeeding should be a good experience for both the nursing parent and baby, but as Dr. Christina Smillie says, we have made it complicated! There is a lot of information and well-intended advice that can be confusing and overwhelming. Like all mammals, we are biologically hardwired to feed our babies our own milk. In nature there are no schedules or instructions, instead the parent learns from their infant, supporting them as they explore their inborn feeding abilities. I strongly believe in the power of preparation - knowing what our babies are capable of and learning how to trust their abilities from birth can make the experience much more fluid for both the baby and the parent. I help parents build confidence with breastfeeding and bodyfeeding before their baby is born and provide in-person feeding support after birth.
If you haven’t figured it out already, I am SO passionate about helping you be as prepared as possible and confident when bringing your new baby home.
The birth of your new baby and entering the 4th trimester is a sacred time. As your postpartum doula I am here to guide you by ensuring you are prepared and confident to navigate this next chapter. My goal is to help you honour and prioritize rest, healing and bonding with your new baby while connecting with your partner as new parents.
